Calling all sketchers and watercolour artists who wants to explore batik hot wax dye resist. Our class shows you the ins and out of Indonesian batik techniques and its historical significance.
Over the three sessions, you will learn the following:
Session 1 (3 hours):
Introduction to Indonesian batik technique.
Tracing sketches onto the cloth (~30 x 30 cm).
Mounting the textiles onto the frame for waxing and/or dyeing.
Waxing using canting.
Session 2 (3 hours):
Appreciating textures with alternative waxing tools.
Colouring using colet brushing technique.
Fixing the colours using waterglass.
Session 3 (~1.5 hours)*:
Removing the wax by boiling.
Washing the batik.
Housekeeping and tips to continue your batik journey.
*Note: if you are unable to attend this session, we will boil and wash the artwork. You may pick-up at the gallery and get it delivered to your place with local Smartpac.
