aNERDgallery is collaborating with PBS Atelier to present Beads on Batik, a workshop that combines the art of two heritage.

A new collaboration workshop combining a traditional textile art technique and exclusive contemporary design by aNERDgallery and PBS ATELIER beading embroidery art.

Participants will draw a batik motif by tracing the pre-drawn design with wax and a canting (a wax pen). After colouring and wax removal, we will decorate the batik artwork with beads using a point-bead embroidery technique. All participants will bring home their creation in a frame.

This course is suitable for beginners.

What will we be making?

We will be draw an auspicious Japanese crane pair motif with a batik method. After which, point-bead embroidery using Peranakan beads (of extremely small size and 1.2mm size beads and scarce pure silver extremely small beads) will be added as an embellishment. The final piece will be framed in an elegant black frame (as shown in the picture) to accentuate the elegance of the artwork.

What’s the program during the workshop?

10: 30-10: 50 Explanation of Indonesian batik
10: 50-12: 30 Batik-making (trace the pre-drawn pattern with a wax pen)
12: 30-13: 00 Batik-drying and snacks
13: 00-14: 00 Bead embroidery (If you do not finish within the time, you may bring it home to continue)

What’s the price and what’s included?

S$ 140 per pax
S$ 130 per pax for group of 2 or more

Included in the price: batik course instructions, bead embroidery course instructions, materials  (some are for on-site use only), photo frame, snacks.

Participants are required to bring their own writing materials and apron to be used during the batik-making session.
