Surya

Surya, the Sun, is the centre of the universe, the source of life. The embryo with the surrounding rays celebrates the beginning of a new life. The vintage-looking textured patterns along the borders represent the old Hindu temple to symbolise the act of breaking out from the traditional norm expected from contemporary batik artists. 

This piece is created by alternating the brushing of wax resist and dye in order to give the different shades of monochromatic grey colours and depth as the centrepiece. Using brushes and copper stamp, he applied wax to create the metal gate effect along with strategic wax cracking technique to obtain the vintage crevices look.

This artwork has been signed by ‘Kompor Seni’, a platform co-founded by the artist to exchange ideas among Yogyakarta artists and the public. The artwork is framed in a high-quality customised frame and is ready to be hung in any space with minimalistic interior for both home and office.
