TJIPLIES PUDJI LESTARI

Tjiplies Pudji Lestari is a fabric painter from Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia. Fabric painting is a specialized type of painting which is designed and applied on textiles. An avid painter since young, Tjiplies started experimenting with fabric upon stumbling on her mother’s stola in 2001.

Tjiplies describes her work as “created for those who are passionate about exclusive hand-painted products which are efficiently and delicately done and truly expressed my inspirations combined with the sensitivity of my heart”. As such, Tjiplies does not stop experimenting and innovating with different fabric mediums and techniques, including batik.

Despite of the difficulties in working with cloth, Tjiplies always tackles these issues with an open mind. Tjiplies finally falls in love with painting on silk because she finds it meditative. She also finds that the challenges are useful to further explore her skills as a textile artist.

Tjiplies’ inspiration comes from the love of her families and friends, giving the happiness in her heart. Other than growing her wearable paintings brand, Nazia Silk Painting, Tjiplies also conducts workshops to share the knowledge and experience to the fans of products “made from the heart”. As all works, including shawls, necklaces and blouses, are painstakingly hand-painted, Tjiplies’ handicrafts are “limited”, unique and definitely one-of-a-kind.

Tjiplies graduated from Faculty of Architecture FTSP Institute Technology of 10 November (ITS), Surabaya, in which, she credits her lecturers and friends who enrich her visual talent, techniques, colour and composition sense, art taste, and skills. Tjiplies is a  current member of the East Java Batik Painter Association. Her batik paintings have been displayed on numerous exhibitions including in House of Sampoerna in 2017.
