Once Upon a Time: Untold Stories of Batik Cerita

Co-curated by Sabine Bolk, batik researcher from Netherlands, this exhibition showcased the various narratives of story cloth, often associated with Indo-European makers or labelled as ‘Dutch-influenced’, which ranged from classic folk tales from around the world to the war scenes in Batik Kompeni. The showcase looks beyond the batik story cloth and something more than just an artefact of Western influence.
