Edition 2 of 2025: Kain Warna Alam - A Journey of Colours Through Balinese Textiles
- 3-8 December 2025
- Ubud-Nusa Penida
Kain, Warna, Alam: A Journey of Colours through Balinese Textiles unfolded as an immersive exploration of cloth, colour and landscape across Ubud and Nusa Penida. The journey traced the deep connections between Balinese textiles and the natural environments that shape them, from inland forests and villages to the island’s rugged coastal edges.
Participants encountered traditional weaving and dyeing practices rooted in local knowledge, where plants, soil and water become sources of colour and meaning. Through visits with artisans and cultural practitioners, the journey revealed how textiles function not only as material objects, but as carriers of ritual, identity and ecological awareness.
Moving between Ubud’s cultural heart and the raw, elemental terrain of Nusa Penida, the experience highlighted contrasts and continuities within Balinese textile traditions. Kain, Warna, Alam invited participants to slow down, observe closely and engage with textiles as living expressions of place—shaped by nature, sustained by community, and rich with stories woven through generations.
